Celebrating the Class of 2025

Heron Virtual Academy of South Carolina (HVASC) recently celebrated a historic milestone: the graduation of its first senior class. The ceremony marked more than the end of high school—it was a powerful testament to perseverance, resilience, and the impact of personalized education.

As a tuition-free online public school serving students in grades 8–12, HVASC offers a supportive learning environment tailored to students who need an alternative to the traditional classroom. Whether overcoming academic setbacks or balancing life’s challenges, Heron students are empowered to chart their own paths to success.

The graduation ceremony brought the school’s mission to life. Many students credited Heron’s caring teachers, credit recovery programs, and self-paced learning model with helping them reach this important day.

Student of the Year Tarissa Barwick captured the heart of the occasion in her remarks:

“This is the moment our parents, teachers, and coaches have been waiting for. It’s the moment that we get to take everything we learned and step into who we were meant to be… Life is going to challenge us, but we are going to rise.”

Executive Director Nicki Batson also highlighted the essential role of families and learning coaches, sharing a heartfelt message of gratitude:

“Your love, support, and sacrifices have been the foundation of their success. Today is a celebration of you as well.”

This was more than a graduation—it was a reminder of what’s possible when education meets students where they are.
